ToKAI, Italy’s first platform for AI Act Compliance

The ToKAI – Toolset and Knowledge Base for AI Compliance project is officially closed, marking an important milestone in the development of the first Italian platform designed to assess compliance with the European AI Act.

Over the past months, ToKAI has brought together the worlds of research and industry, uniting expertise, perspectives, and goals around a shared mission — to make AI governance not just a regulatory necessity, but a practical, accessible process for organizations of every kind.

At its core, ToKAI focused on translating complex regulatory requirements into actionable tools. The team carried out a detailed mapping of the AI Act’s obligations and benchmarked them against major global standards. It also explored the most advanced technologies available today for assessing AI risks, auditing models, and testing compliance.

One of the project’s most significant outcomes was the development of a proof-of-concept platform: a complete workflow for compliance validation that can integrate seamlessly with existing corporate processes and governance systems. Alongside this, the team conducted a comprehensive market analysis, identifying key players and trends shaping the future of AI compliance across sectors.

Developed under the NextGenerationEU program and within the SERICS Foundation partnership, ToKAI shows how collaboration, research, and innovation can accelerate the development of tangible, ready-to-use tools that help organizations navigate the new regulatory landscape with confidence.
